In Their Words
What they have said, on the record
“As a mayor and as a mom, public safety is personal to me”
“Big Tech needs to pay their own way. Not hide behind NDAs. No tax breaks. Don’t raise our electric bills, don’t poison our water. And hire local, union labor”
“Our campaign is rooted in a simple mission: making government work as hard as the people it’s supposed to serve”
“The election in November is going to be about who a person is and why they want to represent you. I think we've gotten to a really dark place in American politics right now. I think people are looking for the person that is going to represent them, not the party. I think you'll see, as we saw the difference between November 2024 and November 2025, saw the electorate really shift in that way. I think we’ll see that again in 2026”
“The first item of business is making sure that congressional stock trading is in fact, illegal. It is sickening. It is something that makes people angry, not just in Northeastern Pennsylvania, but throughout the country. There's a reason that there are multiple bills in Congress floating around right now. I don't know if they'll go anywhere between now and the end of the year, but it is certainly something that makes people very angry”
“It was not my plan, but from what I'm seeing in D.C., I just feel it's a time to try”

“We have an incredible team. We have the best team that I could ever hope for in the city. We have so many projects coming online”
“People here are sick of self-serving politicians”
“I’m running for Congress because people here deserve a lot better than a rich kid, disrespecting our hard work and proud legacy”
“I took on the machine to clean up City Hall, and we got to work, for the people, by cutting red tape, fixing our finances, attracting new businesses, putting more cops on the beat, building new parks, and making real reforms. Now I’m running for Congress to take on a corrupt Washington that has left our community behind while politicians get richer, our costs keep rising, and we get sold out.”
“When I first ran for Mayor, I ran as an Independent against a Democratic machine that wanted to keep using city government to benefit themselves”
“Nobody works harder than the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania, and we are tired of corrupt politicians lying to us and leaving us behind”

Paige Cognetti Outlines Her Strategy for Healthcare · The Morning News with Nancy and Jason
Radio interview · The Morning News with Nancy and Jason (Audacy) Excerpts from GOTV Intel's transcription: [02:40] “Yeah, I mean look, not just the region here, but the entire country is in a healthcare crisis. Um, unfortunately, we have a Congress that is a made this crisis of their own making last year with a vote on the big beautiful bill, cutting a trillion dollars in Medicaid and spending time making sure that they continue to slash science funding, research funding, um that is going to impact not only our healthcare now, but far into the future. We have a measles outbreak, we have two deaths in Pennsylvania from the measles. Um this is not something that is political. This is something that is very acute. It is happening in real time. We have almost 200,000 Pennsylvanians who no longer have health insurance because uh they can't afford it anymore. Those rates have already gone up. And in January of next year, you know, really we're barreling toward it just a few months away. Um a whole host of other of our neighbors will not have healthcare. That means more packed ERs, that means people using the ER as their primary care going in for flu symptoms in uh you know hospitals like ours in Scranton and throughout this region and the entire country that are already packed and already on the brink of not being financially viable. So this is a huge crisis and today, um along with nurses and healthcare workers, uh we'll be talking about this and how it impacts us here in Scranton in northeastern Pennsylvania. But it's it's so important that we talk about it and um it's very sad that this is coming on the heels of uh deaths, actual deaths in Pennsylvania from the measles, which was eradicated decades ago.” [04:54] “Right. It's the concept of under insured, right? There you're uninsured or you are under insured and our healthcare system needs a tremendous reform. Um when I talk about the trillion dollar cuts to Medicaid and the big beautiful bill and how we need a new Congress in 2027 to put the floor back under healthcare, it's not to say we don't need massive reform. We absolutely do, but you cannot do meaningful reform to healthcare by just cutting people's healthcare, cutting health research funding, cutting cancer research. That's not how we get there. You don't, you know, make sure that people have, you know, qualms and I'm not sure about vaccines. I am the mother of a child under four. She doesn't have all of her measles vaccines. That is scary. It is scary as I stand here in my home, um thinking about my daughter who just started preschool. It is not okay that we are doing this in America. We are playing with our health. We are playing with our future. Um people are literally now dying from the dangerous rhetoric that is out there and the folks that are in Congress like Rob Bresnahan are making these cuts, making money for themselves while they make these cuts and then going around, you know, asking folks to thank them for saving the healthcare system. That is absolutely not what's happening. It is crumbling around us. We can all see it and we've got to do something about it, which is why I'm running.” [10:44] “And we've been fighting here in Scranton. You know, we're not a rural hospital system. We are an urban hospital system and we've been fighting for years to make sure that regional's doors stay open. Um, that fight is not over. That is incredibly difficult to keep these hospital systems open giving these current conditions, it's only going to get harder. We have to make sure that we have folks that understand that who understand that we need healthcare and that healthcare impacts everyone. There's a lot of othering that happens in this, um you know, the idea oh Medicaid is for is just only impacts those people. That is not the case in the least. If you have been to an ER or a hospital in the last five years, you have seen the ER is the ER. When the, you know, when it comes to you having a medical emergencies, the, you know, the number of ambulances, the number of ambulances, the number of beds in the ER, the number of beds in in in the ER, same with the measles. The measles don't care who you are, parents voted for, the measles can come. So, this is not political. Healthcare shouldn't be politicized in this way. We've got to get the floor back underneath it. We've got to make sure that people have access and it is um a really scary time.” [14:42] “And we we've got to flip the US House and push to get the floor back under healthcare. We've got to get funding back in for cancer research. We've got before we lose all of this researchers that we have. and we talk to people that are, you know, researchers and they've lost you know great colleagues abroad. People are going to Europe, people are going to China because they're funding research and America has stopped funding it. That is not okay. That is so unbelievable. I had somebody that has Parkinson's talk to me about this that they have had Parkinson's for decades and they are still here and they are able to stand with me and have a conversation that they could have never had without Parkinson's research and they are so fearful that generations behind them won't have that opportunity for that extended life. So, there's a whole host of things that we need to do there and the system needs fixing. We know that. We know that we need to work with our insurance companies to decrease well their costs and make sure that they are not taking advantage of us. We need to take out the middleman in pharmaceuticals, the pharmaceutical benefit managers, the PBMs. Um Congress has made some strides with that over the last many years, but there are a lot of folks that have their you know, fingers in the cookie chart here. Um we've got to get out that waste and make sure that we have insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies that are able to deliver most efficiently to the end user, to the American people so that those costs can go down. We need to make sure that our hospitals have what they need. We need to make sure that the system is fair, that if you are getting a procedure at a small doctor's office or a hospital, that it costs the same. We need clarity in medical billing so that there isn't the inflation you hear about, you know, the $700 Advil, things like that. We need, we need guidelines around those things because some of these things don't have to cost so much on the hospital and you see they're, you know, fighting for their lives and trying to make things make sense. There can be solutions to this. We can do this, America can do big things, but we cannot do it with just a slash and burn approach and just, you know, hope that something survives in the wake of it. That's not the way to do it and our current Congress and Rob Bresnahan, um, you know, saying that he's a healthcare hero, this is a guy who is the arsonist. He set the fire, he took that vote, gave himself the tax break, sold Medicaid provider stocks and has sold Allegheny hospital bond the week that he voted for a $1 trillion $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts. The trickle of rural health transformation fund is nothing. Uh he's the arsonist calling the fire department and being asked to call it a hero.”
