In Their Words
What they have said, on the record
“Throughout my time as AG, we've had concerns about elections being attacked in one way or the other. I was AG in 2020 when Donald Trump and his allies tried to overturn the results. We defended the results in various cases and we won every one of those cases and ultimately the will of the voters was upheld.”
“Clearly there is an effort at the federal level to restrict access to abortion rights. One of the things that has been talked about is trying to put restrictions in place on medication abortion, for example. And so, obviously, a critical issue that we have worked on during my time as AG is protecting access to safe and legal abortion in Wisconsin. If there's federal action where we've got a strong legal basis for challenging it, and it's in the interest of Wisconsinites to challenge it, we will be prepared to do so.”
“He's making a comparison that's not a direct comparison. When it comes to DNA analysis in particular during my time as AG, we upgraded the type of testing we do. We now use what's called probabilistic genotyping. And as a result of that, we're able to get DNA matches in more cases. So we can actually solve more cases and hold more people accountable for crimes they've committed. But it also is a more involved process, and so doing a case is more complex.”
“Now, people can disagree on whether programs are important for Wisconsin or not; that's part of why we have elections for these offices. But I think if you look at our track record, you'll see we've had wins where we've gotten either orders blocking what the administration has tried to do, or the administration has backed down in a number of those cases.”
“I look at two things when I decide whether we're going to join a multistate suit. One is, is the program that we're talking about, the (federal government) action that's being taken, is it harmful to Wisconsinites? And then secondly, do we have a strong legal basis for the case.”
“And one of the things we did was we ensured that every case where there was DNA from somebody other than the suspect, that there was a review done.”

“We had a lot of cases where there were results from testing, but the follow-up hadn't occurred yet.”
“And so making sure that there are strong statewide protocols in place, I think, is really important.”
“But I also don't want to live in a world where we have a surveillance state, where there's dragnet surveillance of our communities.”
“In 2025 we had the lowest number of violent crimes statewide than we have had in any year since 2011. But can't stop at the progress we are making, there is more progress that we need to make, and I want to build on what we have been doing at the department of justice and in communities around the state to make Wisconsin safer.”
“In Wisconsin, we've made meaningful progress, and we need to build on that progress. As my track record shows, I'm committed to working to protect public safety and to looking out for the interests of Wisconsinites”
“This is a pivotal time for our nation. Some of our most basic rights are under threat. Severe cuts have been made to programs that provide opportunities and have helped communities move forward. It's critical that we continue to have an AG who will stand up for our freedoms and the rule of law”
“Whether it's fighting to get our sexual assault logs reformed or working to hold companies accountable for their role in the opioid epidemic and then seeing some of the progress that's being made in fighting the opioid epidemic, to holding people who commit violent and dangerous crimes accountable I'm proud of what we've been doing and I would to build on the progress and success we're making”
“There's a lot of ways that those types of funds can be used. They often work to promote public safety and to do work that makes communities across the state safer. It's important we invest in public safety across the state of Wisconsin”
