Interviews and Published Statements

  • Congressional candidate Aaron Flint — KGEZ Good Morning Show

Radio interview · KGEZ Good Morning Show Excerpts from GOTV Intel's transcription: [08:46] “Well, look, I think when we talk about making the Montana dream affordable again, we're talking about investing in the trades and trades education. And then frankly, that's a big reason why I was so honored. I I think uh since the last time you and I spoke, John, this was absolutely incredible. I was back down in Butte America, and I was so honored to receive an endorsement from the Carpenters Union, which is a huge endorsement uh here in Montana. They they made that announcement in Butte, and we had a uh a great leadership from the Ironworkers Union in attendance for that endorsement as well. So that was incredible. So and a big part of that is that they know that I'm the guy who's been behind that microphone fighting for working families uh uh, you know, for so many years here in Montana, but also because you know, they support our push for more trades and trades education. And that combined with, you know, revitalizing our timber industry, fixing our forests, mining and manufacturing in America again, it's not only how we're going to make the Montana dream affordable again, it's also how we're going to raise revenue. Uh and and so, so there frankly, I think so many folks, when you look at it, you know, even though property taxes are a state and local issue, look, frankly, you know, I, and and by the way, my opponent lobbied in he was a lobbyist who lobbied for higher property taxes, but but I think we when we rebuild our our manufacturing base and when we get more mining opportunities, you know, Libby, Montana, we get more mining opportunities there. That also brings in more revenue, more revenue for our schools, more revenue for our local hospitals, more revenue for state and local governments that can ease the burden on on some of our residential property taxpayers, etc, too.” [13:06] “Yes, no, and I'm glad you brought that one up. Yeah, you know this and this is an important, you know, we again we talk about this conservation consensus here. There's places we're going to mine and there's places we're not going to mine. Uh and in fact I was I was at the Montana Mining Association last week in Helena and and and said that very thing. And you know, when when we talk about places we're going to mine and places we're not going to mine, you know, I've I one of the other great endorsements I got early on was Commissioner Greg Chilcott, a long time Ravalli County Commissioner and I tell you the the County Commissioners had had stood up loudly and and said no to the Sheep Creek mine, uh said no to fast tracking that one. And so yeah, I think we've got to put the brakes on that one. We've got to put a halt to that uh and uh, you know, frankly, it it just does not have the local support and and and that's when we talk about this conservation consensus, there's places we're going to mine and there's places we're not going to mine. Places we we need to look at it are places like Libby, Montana, where we've got enough copper in Libby to rewire the US electric grid two times over and that's going to mean we get that mine up and running. That's high wage jobs that keeps families in Libby. Libby used to have 3,000 kids in their schools, now they only have a thousand kids in their schools and uh we fix our forests and we get a mining opportunity up and running in a place like Libby, uh it's also going to get kids back in our schools.” [15:17] “Well, you know, since day one of this campaign, I've been talking about how we need to end these forever wars and and I think fundamentally that's what what what's got to happen. We've got to to end this conflict in the in the Middle East to to get these gas prices back down to where President Trump got them to last year by unleashing American energy. Uh I I I also think, you know, we we also have to remember how much worse uh gas prices are in states like California. So, so I think I think we know how to get these gas prices back down. Hopefully, this uh this conflict in the Middle East uh will will be over here soon. Uh and and so and that'll get these gas prices back down. But I also think we need to remember that they're you know, in this campaign, we're talking about common sense over crazy. And we've been talking about common sense over crazy when it comes to land management. We also got to get back to common sense over crazy when it comes to to energy prices uh here in America. You look at California, uh earlier this summer, I was talking with Steve Hilton, who's who's running for governor over there, $8.39 a gallon. And so, man, I I look at these gas prices in Montana right now, these are too high for me, John. I couldn't even imagine what it would be like to live in a place like California where they're where they were paying over $8 a gallon, all because of this crazy, you know, this crazy green mentality that they've been trying to shove down people's throats that that frankly isn't even better for the environment, but it's it's just costly to your pocketbook and you know, when we look at the difference between me and my opponent, I'm going to support unleashing American energy. I'm going to support an end to these forever wars. You know, as an Iraq Afghanistan veteran myself, that that's something that's very important to me. But, you know, my opponent has basically one of these supporters of these these crazy green policies that leads to high gas prices like you're seeing in Californian right now that are frankly even worse than than what we're seeing right now. Uh and then on top of that, heck, they were trying to do away with gas-powered vehicles altogether. So, uh so so we've got to get these gas prices down, but we also can't put in folks uh in Congress that are going to put crazy policies back in place that will lead to even worse gas prices than what we're paying right now.”
