In Their Words
What they have said, on the record
“At this job, I met countless women who stretched every dollar they had to keep food on the table. I learned what it means to work hard, to listen, and to be part of something bigger than yourself.”
“That’s what I’m focused on. Making sure that we can win in November and take back the House.”
“What I’m hearing at the doors is people concerned about immigration following them. So for me, listening to the voters, that’s my pulse and the reality of where the community is at. And they’re not talking about the process. They’re talking about things that matter to them day to day.”
“There are other, more important issues that matter People care about, can I get food on the table? Can I pay the rent? Can I put my child through child care, right? Those are the real issues that matter to voters, not the insider kind of drama between one member or another member.”
“It was a roller coaster of one, emotions, but also, now we need to get on the ballot, right? And so that was the priority to ensure that we get on the ballot.”
“The final decision was essentially between that Thursday night [Oct. 30] and Friday morning [Oct. 31] so we literally had less than two days to collect everything and get on the ballot.”

“Trump has declared war on our community, on my community, on my neighbors, on my family, on the 4th District.”
“As someone who’s used public transportation and as a commuter, I can tell you about the work I’ve been [doing] with the congressman in his role on the [House Committee] on Transportation and Infrastructure.”
“Democrats have been criticized for their ability to deliver on their promises Well, here’s my promise to the people. I will not sugarcoat the challenges ahead. I’ll be honest about the fights.”
“I’ve stood in the picket lines with our brothers and sisters I’ve fought alongside families facing ICE detention and prevented their detention, because that’s what you do for your community! Show up!”
“It’s time for leaders in Congress with the courage to actually fight for working people.”
“We shouldn’t be caving and leaving the table with nothing At the very minimum, we need health care and good health care, affordable health care, sustainable health care.”
“My mother crossed the border, undocumented, and pregnant with me. And she arrived in Chicago wearing sandals in the middle of the winter because she didn’t know about the icy, cold Chicago Today, families dressed like ours are facing a new kind of ICE, an assault on immigrants that threatens everything we’ve built. That’s why I’m running for Congress.”
“For those that are saying like, ‘Oh, this was planned,’ — it wasn’t. Those that know me know that I plan and I organize ahead and I’ve got everything set up.”
“Every single cycle, the congressman has had a challenger. Every single cycle.”
“It’s an open process. Any person who’s interested in running for office can apply, can circulate their petitions and submit an application. We followed the rules. We collected signatures, and we submitted an application People can apply at any point. We didn’t stop anybody from applying.”
Interviews and Published Statements

TV interview · WTTW — Chicago Tonight (PBS) Excerpts from GOTV Intel's transcription: [00:48] “So I was born and raised in Chicago in Little Village. Both of my parents are immigrants from Mexico. I grew up in a union home, and I'm a proud graduate of Chicago Public Schools, and also from the U of I. I earned my education policy doctorate degree from the U of I.” [03:08] “Look, anyone could have filed at any point. And we've said that consistently. I've said that consistently that we didn't stop anyone from gathering their petitions, we didn't stop anyone from filing. The board of elections are open as it is to anybody else. The process is open to anybody else. Anyone who's interested can file at any point. And there are two other candidates on the ballot. This isn't a done deal, right?” [06:08] “Look, it's been over 40 years uh since we've had any meaningful immigration reform. So number one for me is of course immigration as a daughter of immigrants. As someone who's had to go fight ice and and go to Broadview and go do surprise visit uh at detention centers, I've seen the atrocities of this immigration system. And it's not just one president, it's been a system that has completely vilified and criminalized immigrants and and separated families.” [07:56] “I think we should have walked away until we had something to walk away with, right? We should have waited uh to ensure that we had at minimum some uh healthcare”
